Snake
About a month ago, this fellow was lounging in my front yard, so I took his picture. He looked to be about 4 feet long. I bugged him until he slithered back out through the chain link fence, which is a good thing, because my dog tends to kill intruders. I think he is a king snake or a bull snake? I just recently got around to uploading the photo.

you were brave to approach him. we had lotsa snakes in South Africa, but i didn't know whether they were dangerous or not, so kept well away.
don't know which i fear most, a snake or a tiny mouse!
In California our only poisonous snakes are rattlesnakes, and I could see he was NOT a rattler, so I knew he wasn't dangerous. He was anything but aggressive. When I nudged him with a stick to get him to move to safety, he didn't even fake striking. I had developed a feeling of affection for the lazy fellow by the time I finally got him to depart my yard.
If I had been sure my dog would not attack him, I would have let him stay. Perhaps he would catch a few of my gophers.
You are so *very* brave! If I see that snake I would have screamed and pass out. I don't care if it's a garden snake or a very big worm. You are a very impressive and awe inspiring person!
He has gorgeous markings.
He was a fine handsome snake. I've decided to paint his picture - on a slightly larger scale than my usual postcard size.
